Key Injuries

Both Jerome Boateng and Thiago.

What to watch for

4231 or 433? In our first half-season power rankings, we explained that Thiago had undoubtedly been Bayern’s most important player of the season. Now that he is expected to miss out due to injury, Coach Ancelotti is faced with an important tactical decision. Does he push Thomas Muller up into the “Number 10” spot and play the 4231 many¬†fans are calling for? Or does he revert to his preferred 433, placing Muller either on the right wing or the bench (more than likely the latter)?

Who will play in the middle? Bayern are blessed with a surplus of capable midfielders, even with Thiago being injured. Whether it be a 2 or 3 man midfield, there is no telling who Carlo will choose to fill those roles. Vidal? Kimmich? Alonso? Sanches?

Can Thomas Muller kickoff 2017 with a goal? It’s no secret that 2016 was not the best year for the Raumdeuter, but that is now the past. 2017 has finally arrived and hopefully it brought with it a good run of form for Thomas Muller.

The return of Kingsley Coman. Don’t expect him to start, but Kingsley Coman is back from injury and is surely ready to prove his worth. He had a poor start to the 16-17 season, but look for him to come back into the squad and find the same great form of last season.

Predicted Lineup:

Costa – Muller – Robben

Vidal – Kimmich

Alaba – Hummels – Martinez – Lahm
