What to Watch For
Will Carlo opt for Youth or Experience? Werder Bremen are by no means the toughest opponents that Bayern Munich will face this season. In fact, they have proved to be the easiest opponent this season based on goal difference. However, they are a younger team and play rather fast-paced football. This seems like the perfect opportunity for Ancelotti to give some of his younger stars some playing time. With Thiago and Vidal both missing through injury, a two-man midfield of Kimmich and Sanches is a distinct possibility, especially considering Xabi Alonso struggles in fast-paced matches (see last weekend against Freiburg). Similarly, this would be an excellent match to give Kingsley Coman some playing time. It is understandable that Carlo often prefers experience over youth, but not playing the younger guys here could prove to be an opportunity gone to waste.
Lewandowski to Continue Being Lewandowski. Robert Lewandowski has proved the hero for Bayern Munich on numerous occasions this season. Do not expect this match to be any different. He scored a hat-trick in the season opener against Bremen and seems to have carried his terrific form with him through the winter break. It seems almost inevitable that Lewandowski will leave Bremen with at least a goal (likely more) to his name.
Muller in the Middle. Last week Coach Ancelotti proved his faith in Thomas Muller by leaving him in the match even as he struggled to have any real impact as Bayern chased a goal. Expect him to do more of the same tomorrow, especially considering Bayern have a full force of fit wingers, but are missing their best midfielders. Muller had a hat-trick of assists in the season opener at Bremen, and is bound to break his poor form sooner or later. The match at Bremen presents itself as a wonderful opportunity for him to do so.
Costa – Muller – Coman
Sanches – Kimmich
